Abstract: Since 2004, the United States has embarked on a campaign that targets the leaders of al-Qaeda and its allies in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia using drones, or, unmanned aerial vehicles.
The lecture will discuss the contours of the targeted killing program and recent investigations into drone strikes. How are targets acquired? What do investigations by human rights researchers and journalists reveal about the civilian casualties of drone strikes? What are the technologies that enable pilots to remotely control drones over the Middle East from the United States?
